Field observations - the same mushrooms from a lower angle (modified)

My garden mulch of choice has always been shredded redwood gorilla hair. It’s tidy, doesn’t blow around and keeps the weeds down. Last fall I was convinced it was time to try someting else, so we used mini-nugget bark mulch along the side of the garage. I’m fairly sure it’s fir.

On February 28th, we found eight Morchella esculenta, and will be watching for more. A nice little bonus; I’m liking this chunky bark just fine. Keep an eye out for newly landscaped areas, but be aware: pre-emergent pesticides are sometimes applied, and you don’t want to be eating more than you bargained for. Ask before you eat!
