It was a beautiful day for exploring the Santa Cruz area forests last Saturday 2/6/2016, and though the weather was amazing, the fleshy fungi were few and far between...

Although soggy, there was a fair selection of fleshy fungi to be observed.  Notably, a couple of lucky folks went home with a basket of candy caps, and a mushroom-dyeing enthusiast went home with a nice clump of jack-o-lanterns!

FFSC President Richard Lyness challenged the membership to come up with our own haikus based on the 2016 Fungus Fair theme, "The Secret Life of Fungi".

This summer I was fortunate to have the opportunity to join a group of 4 other people to accompany Daniel Winkler on one of his MushRoaming tours.

Chef Bob Wynn, Forager-in-Chief Sue Labiste and the FFSC Culinary committee, led by Margaret Carpenter, cooked up a truly wild event this year featuring foraged foods.

Please forgive my musings. Folks have asked how was it?  "It" being the long distance foray up in the Kenai Pennisula in Alaska. Well, this is my 3rd trip, so that pretty much sums it up. It is alway fanastic and I keep swearing this the LAST one, but 2016 is just around the corner. Oh yeah, as long as Bill White offers our club this "Deal of a Lifetime", how can I say NO?
