At the general meeting Tom will enlighten us about The Seven Deadly Sins Committed by Fungi. In the meantime, check out his outstanding and informative web site, Tom Volk's Fungi. CNN featured a moving and insightful profile about him in 2012.

Our own Henry Young will be giving a talk on "Edible and Poisonous Fungi"

Description from the Museum:

Local fungophile, Henry Young, has been hunting mushrooms for over 30 years and is currently a Science Advisor to the Fungus Federation of Santa Cruz, a group dedicated to educating the public about the dangers and delights of collecting wild mushrooms for consumption or study. Henry's talk will concentrate on local fungi, both edible and poisonous.

Foray has been rescheduled

Last year, it was a beautiful day to explore the woods near UCSC, and though we've had a dry spell and hence lack of fleshy fungi, we found a surprising range of mushrooms: Waxy Caps, Black Trumpets, Helvellas, Mycenas, Giant Gyms, Lion's Mane, Deer Mushrooms, a lone Candy Cap, Amanitas, Artist Conks, Sulfur Tufts, Turkey Tails, Lichens, Russulas and more.

Please note:

• All local forays are subject to cancellation/possible location changes.

• Be considerate and signup only if you can attend.

• Do not show up if you have not gotten a confirmation from the local foray minister.

Has it been too long? Need a good dose of Joze? No worries, we have you covered. Jozseph Schultz and the FFSC are plotting an adventurous and eclectic mushroom dinner to start the holiday season on Friday, November 20th at 6:30 PM. The celebration will take place at India Joze, 418 Front Street, Santa Cruz. Mark your calendar!

Jozseph and his cooking have been a legend in Santa Cruz for 43 years for good reason. A meal at Joze draws from many cuisines and sparkles with flavor and authenticity. Please join us for an evening of delicious cultural anthropology and intriguing mushroom dishes!

The evolving menu, subject to inspiration, includes your meal, a glass of wine, tax and gratuity. Beer and wine are also available for purchase. Joseph has generously waived corkage fees for the night. Cheers!

Tickets can be purchased online for $40.00. Sales are limited to FFSC members through October 31, so reserve soon! Non-members may reserve November 1 onward. All reservations will close on Friday, November 14. Prefer to pay by check? You may choose between Paypal, Credit Card and check during the checkout process.
